Catherine S. Marquette
Partnership Architect. Institution Builder. Executive & Coach.
The Builder's Resume
For more than 20 years, I've built things that didn't exist before I arrived—teams, departments, partnerships, revenue streams and even a standalone 501(c)(3)—across professional sports properties, global consumer brands, agencies and mission-driven organizations.
I've sat on all three sides of the partnerships table—the property side (D.C. United, New York Mets, New York Road Runners), the brand side (Pepsi, New Balance, Under Armour) and the agency/consultancy side (RedPeg Marketing, Advisory Board Company/CEB/Gartner). That range isn't common, and it's what allows me to see deals, relationships and strategy from every angle.
I help with strategy development, internal capacity and capability expansion—bottom-line growth through partnerships, marketing and communications initiatives. I excel at top-line prioritization, areas-of-opportunity identification and systems-process-people analysis. I specialize in strategic planning, brand building, partnership developing, business growing, marketing and communicating.
What I've Built
D.C. United (1999-2006)—My North Star role. Founded the community relations department from scratch and created United for D.C., a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit arm. This is where I learned that building something from nothing is what I do best.
New York Mets—Stewarded the Citi Field naming rights partnership and launched the organization's first sales and service CRM system across the Mets and SportsNet New York (SNY).
New York Road Runners—Developed the $10M/year New Balance partnership and built the business solutions function housing analytics, valuation, ROI/ROO metrics, asset tracking and rate cards.
Yoga Alliance—Integrated systems including project and data asset management tools and media monitoring, bringing operational infrastructure to a mission-driven trade association.
How I Think
I'm a builder, not a fixer. I excel at creating organizational capacity where none exists—standing up departments, building teams, developing strategy and distilling it into operating plans. I'm strongest at top-line prioritization, gap analysis and systems-process-people review.
I connect people and dots. I find us fascinating—which is why relationship building, networking and cross-functional collaboration come naturally to me and why I've gravitated toward partnerships as my career's throughline.
I bring something most senior partnerships executives don't—I'm also a credentialed executive coach (CPCC, ICF ACC) and experienced yoga teacher (E-RYT 500). I founded Move Breathe Be, a coaching, yoga and mindfulness practice. This isn't a side hobby—it's a lens that makes me a better leader, a more empathetic partner and a more grounded decision-maker in high-pressure environments.
